Rochester Opera House

THANK YOU TO OUR MAJOR SEASON SPONSORS!

Loved The Show!
Thank you for a MOST enjoyable experience! Three of my friends and myself attended last evenings' production of "Shout, The Mod Musical!" Loved the show, wonderful talent was showcased and we were so thrilled to find this little gem of a theatre. The cabaret seating was most comfortable, enjoyed some delicious food and beverage and most of all was thrilled with the show! I am a SHOUT groupie so it was a pleasre!! Wonderful interpretation of the characters and a super delivery of the fabulous music that we all know so well!! I am hoping to get back to your hidden little gem of a town in the near future, perhaps in the daylight so as to explore the up and coming arts community that I was told about! Good luck with the rest of the run and with all the upcoming events! I certainly will share my excitement with all my friends!!
   ~ Keith, Manchester NH

Wonderful!
Hello! I attended last Friday's Acting Out! show (Summer Theatre Camp performance) - it was wonderful. Thanks very much - GREAT JOB BY ALL!
   ~ Marcia

BEST local productions!
I attended yesterday's performance of Cinderella and I wanted to write and tell you how impressed I was.  I lived in NY for a few years and attended many Broadway shows.  I have been attending local theatre with my daughter to introduce her to the arts and this was by far one of the BEST local productions I have seen. The actors did an incredible job, the scenes were well done and the costumes were terrific. Thank you so much, we had a great time and my daughter is still talking about getting to go up on the real stage and meet Cinderella.

   ~ Tamara

Blown Away!
Can't even begin to say how much I enjoyed Cabaret last night. The cast was amazing...in its entirety. I came because I knew a couple of folks in it, but just didn't expect to be blown away so by the whole production! And the Cabaret set-up was pure genius!!! (and the food to die for, though I wish you'd advertised its extent...When I read "light refreshments" I figured I'd need to feed my hungry hubby before we went and there was no need...so we were too full to purchase as much as we would have liked to have tried!). Huge kudos to cast, crew & staff at the Opera House...with productions like this, you'll be packing the place!!!
     ~ Susan, Eliot, ME

Terrific Time
I wanted to write to thank Susan Page and Cathy Taylor for inviting me to participate in the fundraiser [Rochester Follies: Show of Shows] for the Opera House. I had a great time and met some terrific people. Thanks to all who came out to support this event.
      ~ Bill Powers

Great Time
Just wanted to let you know that I had a great time at the Crystal Gayle concert. That was my first concert at the Opera House and it won't be my last. I truly enjoy the old time theater style venue and its size is perfect to make every seat in the house a good seat. Great job to all the staff.
      ~ Tom

Awesome
The Strafford Wind Symphony was awesome!!!! They were delightfull; a little touch of the Boston Pops in Rochester.
      ~ Toni

A New Fan
Tonight's performance of the Shanghai Circus was the first time I have been to the Opera House. I can't wait for Beatlemania [Now] to get here. What a lovely building...helpful staff and the show tonight was fantastic. A new fan of the Rochester Opera House!
      ~ Lyndalee

Georgeous and Intimate
My husband and I attended the Jim Brickman/Anne Cochrane concert last night and had a wonderful time. The theatre is gorgeous and intimate; what a fabulous place to attend a concert. I know I will return to your theatre in the future...the ushers were so friendly. You folks are top notch!
     ~ Jody

Heads Up!
I have been to the show "Cabaret" and what a great performance! I loved it very much and it was so entertaining and well done!!! Heads up... the Opera House is such a beautiful building and hopefully will be able to survive with donations from supporters for the future. It would be a shame to lose it and the opportunities for people to see great shows, plays, stars, etc.... right out our doorstep and don't have to drive to the big cities of Boston and New York to see something great and have a good night out.
    ~ K.S.

THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Hilarious Horror

Visit the Little Shop of Horrors, when Rochester Opera House Productions presents this deliciously humorous rock musical. Enjoy cocktail seating with a cash bar, light supper and desserts as down-and-out Skid Row floral attendant, Seymour, contentedly attends to an exotic plant that he has named Audrey II in honor of the love of his life, Audrey. Seymour soon discovers that this is no ordinary plant as it grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B singing carnivore with a craving for blood. Finally revealing its true identity, Audrey II offers Seymour fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its voracious appetite.

One of the longest running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this charming spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies was written by Howard Ashman. The music, composed by Alan Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That's Green and Suddenly, Seymour.

GRAND DRAPE VIGNETTES

In 1908, ten magnificent curtains, hand painted on linen, were ordered from the O.L. Story Scenic Studio of Boston to grace the stage of the Rochester Opera House. These grand drapes, with their lavish center scenes, were ornamented with elaborate fringe and tassels to give an illusion of heavy drapery. In 1996, during theatre restoration, one last tattered and torn curtain remained.  A century of wear has taken its toll, but as this lovely fragment attests, the beauty endures.  More

TIM SAMPLE

Welcome Back, Chummy.

Premier native humorist Tim Sample returns to regale the audience with more quintessentially quirky tales from Down East Maine, where "curiosities and oddities are the rule, rather than the exception". The master storyteller with a deliciously wry wit opens a treasure chest of humorous observations from the Pine Tree State where he was born, raised and educated. Tim Sample has performed thousands of shows on stages from Maine to California, but explains why the Rochester Opera House remains one of his all time favorite venues:

Unless you've traveled and performed as much as I have you really can't appreciate the magic of Rochester Opera House. This place has a warmth, intimacy and comfort which just draws the audience together. It's the perfect hall for the type of monologue I do. Although there's a real grandeur to the Rochester Opera House and a palpable connection to our past and our New England culture, it's also as intimate and friendly as your own living room. I can't explain it. But, I feel that magic every time I walk through the curtain and greet a new audience at the Rochester Opera House. I've enjoyed every single show I've done there and I always get genuinely excited about coming back for another one.

Cash Bar, 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
